Remembering Judith Leiber - Michael's Consignment NYC

Remembering Judith Leiber

Judith Leiber, an iconic handbag designer since 1939 passed away at the age of 97 on April 30. Her husband of 72 years, the abstract painter Gerson Leiber also passed away within hours of his wife. The couple started the Judith Leiber brand together in 1963, and Leiber quickly became known for her playful and whimsical minaudiere clutch designs.

Celebrating Mother's Day with Michaels

Family is at the core of what we do here at Michael’s, since 1954! On Mother’s Day especially we would love to take a moment to share some of our favorite things about our own mothers, whether they are far from home or they work alongside us every day (like our President and Vice President, Laura and Tammy!). So today, we are taking a moment to shout out motherhood and give these important women in our lives the spotlight. These women have raised us and shaped us into the people we are today, and we don’t need just one day to thank them for everything they’ve done. Keep reading to hear some of our Michael's girls thoughts on motherhood.

Our Favorite Looks from the 2018 Met Gala: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination - Michael's Consignment NYC

Our Favorite Looks from the 2018 Met Gala: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination

Hey fellow Michael’s Girls, today we’re coming to you live from our new location at 1125 Madison Avenue! We are so excited to be opening tomorrow in our new home at 84th St. One of the most exciting things about our new location is that we are literally footsteps away from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a New York City staple. It’s so surreal to think that just last night we were mere meters away from the majestic celebrity-filled iconic Met Gala red carpet.

Celebrating Earth Day Before There was an Earth Day! - Michael's Consignment NYC

Celebrating Earth Day Before There was an Earth Day!

Since the turn of the century, my family has believed in sustainability and “going green”.  Way before it was a thing, we were doing it. My great-great grandfather Simon was a tailor in the late 1800’s.  He could not believe the amount of beautiful garments that were often abandoned at his lower east side shop in NYC. He did not have the heart to toss them in the trash and instead believed that someone would love to have these pieces in their closets.

Step out of your Fashion Comfort Zone!

One of the biggest trends on the catwalk for Spring 2018 was what we called “Brighter than the Sun”. We chatted a bit about this trend in our recent Spring 2018 Trends to Wear Now post.  Basically, the trend is to go big and bright with color. Use neons, loud animal prints, and crazy colors and textures because they are all on trend at the moment. So now is the perfect time to take a little chance while getting dressed in the morning and step out of your style comfort zone.

A Letter from Laura - Michael's Consignment NYC

A Letter from Laura

Looking back on the 64 years of Michael’s history, I am amazed that the years have gone so fast. I worked alongside my Dad for many years until his death in 1992.  Some of you might remember him and Cynthia, Annette, Judy, Deborah and the many other wonderful employees who passed through our doors. Each in their way, brought something to the party and added to the upbeat and professional atmosphere we are known for.

Moving on Up!

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! Onward and uptown! Michael's is on the move. We are leaving our wonderful home of 64 years and moving north to a fabulous ground floor location, 4 blocks up on Madison. 1041 Madison provided an excellent environment during our formative years and a wonderful place to grow up and mature. Now that we have become a destination business with clients and consignors from around the world, it is time to take our place at street level on Madison Avenue so we can better serve our clientele.
