The Legacy of Karl Lagerfeld
The white ponytail, the signature sunglasses, and the tailored clothes. The only person that comes to mind when we hear these signature and iconic facets is Karl Lagerfeld. One of the world’s most famous fashion designers and one of our favorites, Karl Lagerfeld, has passed at the age of 85. He is remembered by his legacy at the design houses of Chanel, Fendi, and his own line by his namesake.
Karl Lagerfeld was born on September 10, 1933, in Hamburg, Germany, to Otto Lagerfeld and Elisabeth Bahlmann. His name has been on the fashion radar from the very start of his career. At the age of 21, Lagerfeld was able to win the International Wool Secretariat in the coat category. His hard work and dedication then led him to score the job with couturier Pierre Balmain. In 1963, he began his work at Chloé which then turned into full time work by 1974. Once he had gained expertise in his field, in 1983 the owner of Chanel asked Lagerfeld to breathe new life into the brand.
Karl quickly became the mastermind behind what we now see as Chanel. Although Michael's Consignment does not take vintage items, we do take vintage Chanel as all Chanel is important to us!
This is an extreme sadness for the fashion community, and people will be feeling this grief for a while. We are so grateful to have witnessed the works of Karl Lagerfeld over the years.
