There’s nothing like the feeling of a bright and shiny new year. It’s now 2019 which means a fresh start for everyone, so why not have a fresh start with your closet too? No one likes clutter, especially when you only have that tiny New York City closet to work with. So let’s declutter your closet while also decluttering your mind and make way for new fashion for the new year. And guess what; we can even turn some of your closet into cash! So let’s take a deep breath, put on some Ariana Grande tunes, grab a glass of wine, and get started.

As you start going through your closet, we recommend making four piles: Keep, Consign, Trash, and Donate. Only put the items that you regularly wear and love in the keep pile (it’s easier said than done we know). For the items that you don’t want, the fabulous seasonal designer pieces that are from the last 2-3 years and are in great condition can be taken to Michael’s to be put onto consignment (Did you know we also do pickups?). That Chanel quilted leather jumbo bag you never wear anymore? We’ll take it! You can see our list of designers we accept here. Any items with severe damage that can’t be repaired, like major rips or old stains, can be put into the trash pile along with items that are just overworn and in very bad condition. Pieces that aren’t designer or may be not in the best condition but still have some wear left in them can be put into your donate pile. And that’s it! We know that a closet cleanout may seem like a big undertaking, but you can make it fun by having a glass of wine and putting on some upbeat music! Or if you’re in need of some optimistic cleaning inspiration, there’s always the new Marie Kondo series on Netflix to really get you going. You can even invite your girlfriends over so they can help give you a second opinion while you’re going through things. This whole process should be worthwhile and fun, think of it as you’re getting to rediscover your closet. You may even find some hidden gems that you had forgotten about!

Once you’ve gone through your entire closet you’ll be left with only your truly loved pieces and will feel 10 times more relaxed and not to mention organized. Then you can enjoy the process of putting your clothes back and organizing them by color, type, or even season. Get creative with it, and find a new way to love your closet and make it visually appealing for yourself. This closet cleanout is sure to not only make you feel better about your current wardrobe, but it may also give you some new inspiration on wearing your favorite pieces in new fun ways. A clean, organized closet will make getting dressed in the morning when you’re running late a whole lot easier. 2019 is definitely going to be your most stylish year yet!
